Tom D Morgan
Personal identity, website design/development, and printed collateral for a British photographer.
Commercial photography. Tom D Morgan is a UK based photographer and videographer who covers a wide range of specialisms. Tom is regularly found abroad working for a number of international clients, ranging from the BBC to Nike.
Distinctive personal identity. Tom commissioned us to develop a new personal brand identity and bespoke portfolio website, from conception to production.
A minimal but powerful identity
Tom has a rich portfolio, so after research and experimentation we decided a minimal identity works best. The marque, typography, and layout help show off the photography — rather than distract from it. The distinctive marque represent paths of light, something inseparable from both photography and videography.
Developing A BRANDED EXPERIENCE with DETAIL
An identity is more than just a logo. The holistic and flexible identity we designed for Tom D Morgan let us develop a dynamic branded experience site-wide, without needing to show the logo everywhere. The distinctive visual language creates a memorable experience, achieved in part through lovely little details: the monogram, typographic flourishes, flexible marques, and bespoke iconography.
BRAND IDENTITY
Designing beautifully minimal print
We designed a full range of business stationery for Tom D Morgan, using a reductionist style and beautiful typography. White space is used to reinforce the quality of the services being provided. We paid particular attention to the print production and stock to support this concept.
immersive portfolio experience
The concept behind the bespoke portfolio website we designed and developed for Tom is all about being rich image led. It's taking the impact of a traditional printed portfolio, and translating that to digital. Full screen imagery, intuitive slideshow navigation, and immersive transitions make the site memorable — different to a run of the mill theme.
Adding context to the visual narrative
Tom often accompanies projects with long form essays. The narrative they provide make his experiences and stories come to life. We integrated a sophisticated essay functionality into the portfolio, allowing Tom to add essays to selected projects. Clicking the essay icon scrolls the page down to the treatise.
truly responsive
Creating a valuable mobile portfolio
Social media is increasingly important to independent practitioners — it’s a fantastic way to get exposure to potential clients. The trouble is a lot of photographers don’t have their sites optimised for mobile, and that’s how clients are going to access the site from an Instagram bio or Twitter link. We carefully built Tom’s website responsively — ensuring results by designing with mobile and tablets users’ needs in mind, without sacrificing richness of content.
Private client area
A section of the website hidden to most users. Tom can upload projects of photos and videos and share them with clients for approval. Each project has a unique URL and password combination, which clients input on a minimal landing page. Tom can add specific information to the project, and clients can view, compare, and download images quickly and efficiently.
flexible branding
Developing a seamless experience across digital and print
Most people will initially interact with brands and practitioners digitally — through a powerful website or across social media. But as relationships develop, clients will expect to see printed collateral: physical portfolios in castings, business cards, quotes and invoices, and proposal documents. This helps establish a brand, and establish trust. We provided Tom D Morgan with a full range of stationery and document templates, creating real continuity thanks to the flexible identity we designed.
